Edit: Firefox ate my original draft of this list. Thanks, Firefox!
So E3 is finally over, and overall, I think it went better then I expected (especially after it’s awful AWFUL start at the hands of EA, yet again). There was actually a LOT of games that I want from this years showing…. so that’s why I created this list! I tried to remain impartial, but you know me- I’m as impartial as…. something that a part of something else….. or something. Look, are you going to read this top 10 or not?
So here they are!
10. Watchdogs: Legion
Ubisoft
March 6, 2020
I’m not the biggest fan of WatchDogs. There, I said it! The games have a lot of unique concepts involving technology and such, and have some pretty decent open worlds…. but I really didn’t get too much into them. All I do know is that there really not that bad- not bad at all, in fact! Not only does Legion not look that bad, it also boasts some interesting features- mainly permadeath with multiple playable characters- which will really shake things up! Should probably go play the other two in the mean time…
9. Square Enix’s The Avengers
Square Enix
May 15, 2020
I liked Infinity War and Endgame- I mean, its easy to see why. MCU has, what, 22 films leading up to this showdown with Grimace? The rest? Eh. I liked Iron Man and Spiderman, but the rest of the films varied in quality. I say all this because Square Enix’s Avengers seems to take a lot of influence from the MCU- and this is a good and bad thing. This is why it’s only #9- This one could be a really good Marvel game…. but it could also fall flat on it’s face, much like Iron Man 3. BAM- I just went there!
8. Romancing SaGa 3, Collection of Mana, and Grandia Collection
Square Enix, GungHo
Now (Digital), August 27 (Physical) (Collection of Mana) TBA (Romancing SaGa 3,Grandia Collection)
This E3 has been kind to fans of classic JRPG fans! Not only are we getting an official translation of both Romancing SaGa 3 (An open-ended JRPG that sadly stayed in Japan for, like, forever) and Seiken Densetsu 3 (AKA Secret of Mana 2 to fan translators, AKA Trials of Mana officially) but were also getting a remaster of sorts for two legendary JRPGS- Grandia (PS1/Saturn) and Grandia II(PS2/Dreamcast) This should keep JRPG fans busy until another game further on this list comes out…..
Note: The physical versions of Collection of Mana is apparently going to be a limited print, so you might want to pre-order your copy!
7. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Nintendo
March 20, 2020
Yep, we getting another one! Everyone favorite money-guzzling racoon returns to make sure you pay your debt! Now taking place on an island somewhere, Animal Crossing: New Horizons lets you pretty much customize the island how ever you want. Will there be other islands to explore? Will that damn fox that sells bootleg artwork come back? Only time will tell…
Fun Fact: This game’s delay caused Nintendo to lose BILLIONS of dollars in stock market value! God, I hate wall street!
6. Doom Eternal
ID/Bethesda
November 22, 2019
What else can I say? It’s Doom! Doom 2016 has to my biggest surprise of that year, as I am (as you know) a big fan of the original games. It was visceral, fast, and was just a blast to play (even though it hardly played like the original, which is alright by me!) and Eternal looks like no exception! From returning enemy types (some with their OG Doom artstyle!) to the fact that you’ll eventually go to HEAVEN- Doom Eternal has a lot going for it! Hopefully I can get a decent PC before then….after that…. I’ll see you in hell!
5. Vampire- The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2
Hardsuit Labs
March 2020
I haven’t played too much of the cult-classic original- but played enough to know that VTMB 2 is in good hands! With a seemingly expanded non-linear world, and a wealth of new features, VTMB 2 looks like the sequel that the original deserves! Hope it doesn’t suck!
…….
Sorry, not sorry.
4. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC
Nintendo
Summer and Fall 2019
“Wait a minute! Wait one gosh-darn minute!” You expell baited breath.
“This game is all ready out! You can’t put it on this list!”
Let me explain. Both reveals for Smash Ultimate are very important in diffrent ways.
First and foremost- Everyone should stop complaining about The Hero!
Smash has always been a love letter to Nintendo’s historic past, and Dragon Quest is a huge part of that legacy. From its origins back on the Famicom, DQ rose up in Japanese culture to be one of the most well known and prolific JRPG series in Japan, as well as an important part of Japanese popular culture. It is an incredibly important series that needs to be represented!
However, the big reveal here is Banjo and Kazooie. For so long, the Bird and Bear has beem seemingly locked away in Rare’s vault for so long, along with Conker, Blast Corps, and so many other IPs that Rare has pushed to the wayside. For all intents and purposes, Banjo should not be here- Rare’s iron clad grip on the IP. The fact they only seemed relevant in the west. The popular opinion that the pair was only in two worth-while games…..
But he did. Sakurai said “Enough!”, snapped he’s fingers, and there it was- a jiggy, bouncing across the screen. You knew what was coming…. You knew.
GUH-HUH!
3. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
Nintendo
TBA
This one I don’t think anyone saw coming. I mean, it was inevitable- BOTW was one of Nintendo’s greatest successes of the past few years, along with the Nintendo Switch. But we didn’t think it would come this early- or this directly, either. An actual surprise (which are sadly hard to come by now-and-days at E3). Here’s hoping that we get proper dungeons, and a new region to explore- or at the very least, an interesting twist to the world…. Maybe revisit a popular region…..
Termina, anyone?
2. Cyberpunk 2077
CD Projekt Red
April 16, 2020
Please. You knew this would be on here! From the creators of one of the most critically acclaimed open-world RPGS (The Witcher III) comes this RPG based on the legendary tabletop RPG, Cyberpunk 2020. Set in the cyberpunk world of Night City, players will able to dive deep into the underbelly of a corrupt, greedy, and violent setting. It’s from CD Projekt Red, so you know it’s going to be good!
Also, Keanu Reeves.
Honorable Mentions
That’s right! I’m stealing Watchmojo’s shtick of putting the Honorable Mentions before number one! What are they going to do to me- Top 10 me to death?
Luigi’s Mansion 3– Again (for the 106th time I said this in this article alone!) I haven’t really played any of the Luigi’s Mansion games. However, this one did catch my attention, with its varied locations and fun-looking mechanics, including a Luigi made of lime jello, for some reason. Might have to play catch up before this one releases!
Evil Genius 2- Hey, a series I have played…. well, at least a little, anyway! Evil Genius 2 is another I don’t think a lot of people saw coming. It was pretty much a evil lair management game, much like Dungeon Keeper- but you play as Dr. Evil instead of Tim Curry from Legend. Anyway, yeah- I appreciate when devs bring back old games like this!
Panzer Dragoon– Aw yeah! After the misfire that was Crimson Dragon (a failed attempt at modernizing PD that had f@#king mobile-esque microtransactions in it!) its good to see this series again after so many years! Maybe, if this remake is successful, we could get a port of Panzer Dragoon Saga that doesn’t cost $500?
No More Heroes III– This one is quite miraculous, as Suda 51 claimed that if the previous game, Travis Strikes Again, didn’t sell enough, that NMH III would never come to fruition. Guess he was lying, as NMH III is totally happening! We’ll see if it’s any good. In the mean time, I should probably go play at least the first game, huh?
1-Up Arcade’s TMNT and Marvel Cabinets- This one is great for me, personally. People can finally get two of the greatest licensed games, in one arcade cabinet, for a alright price (alright in arcade pricing, anyway- these things usually cost $500 to thousands of dollars!) This is also great because were finally getting an arcade perfect port of these two TMNT games for the first times in decades (I know they were unlockables in the TMNT2k3 era games, but those messed with the audio and such).
We’re also getting a Marvel themed cabinet that has three great Capcom games- XMen- Children of Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, and The Punisher– Again, Punisher being the first time we’re getting a proper home release.
I know what I’m putting on my Wishlist this year!
Mittens.
What. Why are looking at me like that?
And Finally…..
1. Final Fantasy VII Remake
Square Enix
March 3, 2020
You knew this was coming! Most of my doubts were squashed in one foul swoop! The first part of the game is actually coming! Tifa Confirmed! Actual Gameplay! Actually looks good! You see, I doubted this project- I thought it was going to be delayed, over and over again. But here we are- a tangible product, in our grasps! It’s actually happening!
However, I still have some doubts- will they remake the rest soon? Is there a world map? Will all the content be intact? Will Cloud crossdress and be thrown around by a bunch of near naked muscle men? Only time will tell- in the mean time, this is my pick for E3.
What did you think? Did my list come close to yours? Did you have the Wii port of Just Dance 2020 on your list? Let me know in the comments below!
